Price Forbes has chosen to pledge support in our actions and our deeds to Qhubeka.
12 million of the country’s 16 million school-going children walk to and from school every day, approximately 500 000 of these children walk more than two hours to school and two hours back. With a Qhubeka bicycle, a child’s commute time is reduced by up to 75%. This directly translates into better marks and results, and an upliftment of educational standards across the country.
We want to change these statistics by introducing Qhubeka to our partners and clients in the hope that they will help us spread the message of this wonderful charity and more importantly assist in the donating of bikes to the cause.
Qhubeka uses bicycles to connect people to schools, clinics and jobs. Communities with limited transport have restricted options, but bicycles are tools of change.
Founded in 2005, the name literally means “to move forward”, because bicycles help people to travel faster and further, and to carry more. A bicycle is a tool that helps people move forward an apt name as their now famous buffalo bike has transformed many lives.
As a charity Qhubeka stands out from the rest as their message is neither patronizing nor stereotyping of Africa and its people; they identify a problem and explain how bicycles can fix it. They have African heritage, empower African cycling and Africans themselves. As a South African company, Price Forbes South Africa supports and subscribes to this message.
We recently hosted a client evening with Anthony Garstang the global sponsorship director for Dimension Data (a global Price Forbes client) and Anthony Fitzhenry the founder of Qhubeka. These two inspiring speakers shared their journey with our guests in what it takes to sponsor, compete and partner in the greatest cycle event on earth, The Tour De France.
Dimension Data provide groundbreaking technical and data services to the Tour De France; and Qhubeka is the inspiring charity that underpins and differentiates the Dimension Data cycling team from others in the race. The link to the charity gives additional purpose to the riders.
As a company we’re putting our money where our mouths are and have entered the Johannesburg Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge. The team will ride 2 Qhubeka bicycles making sure we get these bikes from start to finish over the 94.7km distance in November 2017.
